Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning - An assessment process that assesses an individual's non-formal andinformal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learningoutcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, aqualification.
Recognition of prior learning is an integral component of the vocational education and training system in Australia.
It refers to the recognition of competencies currently held by a person, regardless of how, when or where the learning occurred.
Under the Australian Qualifications Training Framework, competencies may be attained through:

  • formal or informal training and education work experience
  • general life experience
  • any combination of the above

Recognition of prior learning avoids duplication of training and maximises the value of vocational education and training.
It can result in a full qualification or a statement of attainment for a partial completion.
Although the benchmarks for assessment are the same as those used in training, for recognition of prior learning, the assessor must be satisfied the candidate has appropriate evidence that he or she is currently competent against the endorsed industry or enterprise competency standards, or outcomes in specified accredited courses.

Students who believe they already have some of the competencies in the course may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Application may only be made after enrolment and payment of fees and must be  made using the Application Form that will be provided on request.

RPL / RCC is the acknowledgment of the full range of an individual’s skills and knowledge. It includes competencies gained through formal study, work experience and other ‘life’ experience.

Worksafe Training Centre aims to ensure that an individual’s prior learning is recognised, irrespective of where or how the learning has taken place.

To apply you will be required to complete an RCC / RPL application form and supply further documentation, which may include evidence such as:

  • A certified copy of your qualification/s
  • Verification from your current manager indicating your current involvement in relevant subjects – on official letterhead
  • Documented evidence of your current work including samples as requested.

Please discuss your RPL application with the Course Coordinator / Trainer for your course.

CREDIT TRANSFER POLICY

  1. Applicants for credit transfer must complete the credit transfer application form, attach a copy of a verified Award or Statement of Attainment and submit the application to the RTO Training Manager.
  2. The RTO Trainer must check the Award or Statement of Attainment and grant credit transfers for identical units that have been identified as being completed at another Registered Training Organisation.
  3. Verified copies of Qualifications and Statements of Attainment used as the basis for granting credit transfer must be placed on the student files
  4. Granting of credit transfer must be recorded as a unit outcome in the student's file

Credit Transfer Procedure

Students who have completed units from their course at other institutions will be given recognition on presentation of a verified transcript, Award or Statement of Attainment.

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that the qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other Registered Training Organisation are recognised.

Requirements

The qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other Registered Training Organisation must be recognised.

  • Recognition means that students will be granted exemptions or advanced standing in a course as a consequence of having completed the same competencies with another Registered Training Organisation.
  • Credit transfer information must be included in information given to students prior to enrolment
  • All staff must be provided with information about the credit transfer application process and assist students in completing applications.
  • Verified copies of Qualifications and Statements of Attainment used as the basis for granting credit transfers must be kept on the student files
  • Granting of credit transfers must be recorded as a unit outcome in the students file

The definition of Credit Transfer is to assess the initial course or subject that an individual is using to claim access to, or the award of credit in, a destination course. The assessment determines the extent to which the clients initialcourse or subject is equivalent to the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards ina qualification. This may include credit transfer based on formal learning that is outside the AQTF.

Pathways

Registered Training Organisations and TAFE Colleges must recognise the qualifications and statements of attainment issued by any other Registered Training organisation. This means that you may be eligible for credit towards courses conducted by other Registered Training Organisations and TAFE Colleges based on what you achieve with Worksafe Training Centre Pty. Ltd.
